He created the villa in different styles, such as Baroque, Rococo and Art Nouveau. He passed the last years of his life here until his death in 1959. His daughter sold the Villa in 1975. Founder of the Nobel Prize

Alfred Nobel

Alfred Nobel was born 21st October 1833 in Stockholm. At the age of 17 years, he spoke 5 languages (German, English, French, Russian and Swedish) fluently. His family's wealth meant that he could enjoy a very good education and he studied chemistry and physics. His secondary passion was for English Literature. He later travelled copiously to the USA, Sweden, Germany and France, and on one of these journeys he met Sorbrero - the inventor of nitroglycerine. Nobel was very interested in inventions and experimented a great deal with nitroglycerine. In 1863 he invented a method of priming that could be used to ignite explosions. In 1891 Nobel moved to San Remo, preferring the healthy climate of the Mediterrean and lived here until he died 10th December 1896. Today you can still visit the Villa Nobel, which is surrounded by a wonderful park.
